'Soulful' is something that takes us to the inner-most recesses of our hearts and being soulful about music, is a whole new level of deep. Blessing Tangban, Abuja-based singer is one 'soulful sister' that is yet to fully get the recognition she deserves, because frankly speaking, she's just as good as the likes of Asa, Aramide, Niniola, Brymo and numerous others out there in the Nigerian music industry.
Fondly called Blessing T, her genre of song which she likes to describe as "acoustic folk" resonates in the hearts of many because of how relatable in terms of the message and scenarios described in the songs are.

For her music is "...my passion. It is everything to me. Music raised me, it teaches me, heals me, it makes me happy, makes me sad. Music makes me understand. When I started conditioning my mind to write music, I used to listen to a lot of John Mayer because he's a very good songwriter. I was basically learning about life from him because I stayed in New York by myself for a bit, my parents and family were not there, so there was a lot I didn't know about life at the time, because I was very young. Hearing him cleared up certain things in my life for me. It gave me a better understanding of life. It encouraged me when I was sad. It made me happy. So music is like a parent to me. It's like my family. For me it's deeper than just writing a song. If you can't or don't learn something from what I write, then I feel like I've not accomplished anything, because that's what the people I learnt from gave to me."
She's recoded songs like
Pennsylvania,
Fly on Your Wall,
Revolution,
Harrison, etc, under the EP;
Nowhere Girl. Her debut album titled
Free was launched in Abuja in August and later had its Lagos launch in October.
Projecting into the future musically, Blessing wants to "...work, because music is not always fun. I want to work to the point where I can mentor other people like me coming up. I want to be able to take young artistes under my wings eventually and show them the path that I had to go through, so that they wouldn't have to go through what I passed through. Of course I want to tour, I want to go to places all over the world with my music, meet my heroes, which is actually very fascinating because people I listen to growing up are the people I get to play with at events now. It's mind blowing! So but ultimately, I want to mentor other people. I want to put into them what others have put into me."
Blessing who is from Cross-Rivers state, is a also a guitarist, published academic and yoga enthusiast. She describes herself as "introverted", "homey", "empathetic", "churchy" and a "lover of Jesus" who likes traveling, adventures, mountain climbing, sky-diving and extreme sports.
